  • I disagree with their criticism of the Brenda Song character. The way she turns at the end and becomes emotional 'out of nowhere' is something myself and many men have seen our girlfriends do. It might not paint women as a whole in a good light. But since when is an individual character supposed to represent an entire gender? This movie even has a strong female character to balance it out. Brenda Song's character is nasty but there are plenty of nasty people in real life too. This movie is brilliant. Period.

  • I really liked this movie and have watched it many times, but I was disappointed in the last line of this movie too, because its message is too forgiving. I liked the Zuckerberg character right up to the brilliant scene with his girlfriend in the beginning of the movie. From that point on, I liked him less and less and I thought the movie revealed several incidents in which Zuckerberg demonstrates what a smug, superior, soulless ass he is, but then it ends by kinda letting him off the hook, in my opinion.

  • I'm a man who thinks of himself as a feminist and has taken stick from other men for saying so, and I found this idea that you couldn't portray women like this pretty appalling. In a film full of depictions of awful men, you can't show any awful women? When there are awful women just as there are awful men in real life? When two of the most sympathetic characters in the film - Rooney Mara's and Rashida Jones's - are women? Seriously, in an otherwise intelligent discussion, you do yourselves a disservice with this. You also do feminism a disservice, playing into the hands of all the paranoid, angry guys who think it means demonising men and never criticising women for anything.

  • I don't think this movie i about social media at all. I'd say it is more about climbing the social ladder and whatever you do to achieve it. Most characters in the film do not seem invested in making money, since they already come from wealthy families or a good enough economic situation, the struggle for them seems to be about whatever success brings in a more personal manner, whether it is making my dad proud, get into an important social club or simple revenge. Second to this is the kind of epic battle between Mark and Eduardo, it's been talked about to death so I'l leave it at that. The parts regarding silicon valley and the effects this will have on society are shown i the film, the first one as back to our ascending protagonist and the second in that interesting coked up speech delivered by sea, which is the only instance I can think of in which the movie ponders about whatever this technology will do to society. english is my second language If you don't think like me plss let me know

No, the scene Sorkin is "most proud of" is the first scene between Eisenberg and Mara, from the beginning we know Zuckerberg is an a**hole... (and Jamie proves me right later)... 3. How can you not talk about the Oscar winning music!!??? 4. This movie is briliant, think about what any other director, screenwriter and musician would have done with the material... Thanx!!!

  • I don't think the movie holds up at all. The screenplay fails to engage in any of what would go on to define FB, and I don't think the creative team were even aware. When FB first turned into a business and got their big money, it was because of its potential to be the world's biggest advertising delivery system, with targeting via a pioneering use of big data. Then when it pivoted into the FB Pages system it became beholden to the other side of the ad world - PR, and then disinformation. And every step of that was done consciously by its key team. Among other things, it led to Brexit and Trump, to the Far Right returning to the real halls of power. Looking back, The Social Network is shallow and not at all prescient. It's nerbro melodrama.
