  • What do you think? Did The Office need Dwight or would they have been better off without him?

    • I disagree. Dwight did not go far enough. He is not a accelerationist. He is a egoist. He only took the job to brag about himself.

    • He can be pretty over the top sometimes, but he's shown countless times that he's good at business and just making money. He's done clever things like buy out a bunch of the most popular toy of the season in his area before Christmas and cranked up the pricing when desperate parents came to him wanting to buy said toy. That's pretty dang smart. I remember him selling each doll for $200 a piece or something like that. That's good money.

    • I think you guys are excusing socialist/communist tactics being used today, by pretending it is rooted in capitalism and not with Marxist groups. BLM, Antifa, and much of the Democratic Party are the cause for the failure of capitalism, because from day one they seek to destroy it through regulations, government intervention, and media controlled propaganda. All you’re doing is trying to dilute the Marxist acceleration being done today, and reframing it as a inherit problem with capitalism.

  • Hmm. The thing about accelerationism is that it operates from the predisposed position that not only is the current system bad, but that there is another system that works better. Considering the alternative to capitalism is socialism, and the track record of socialism, all I can see is a bunch of people throwing gasoline on a small fire until it becomes a big enough fire to put out. Instead of "accelerating" the actual system of capitalism, they're taking it to the furthest extreme possible in an attempt to "prove" that capitalism is the worst thing in the world, when in fact Michael is proof that capitalism doesn't inherently mean profits over people. There is no way you can say Michael's views about business don't fall under capitalism as well. That isn't "accelerating" capitalism, that's accelerating the worst parts of human nature within capitalism. It's a very unfair ideology starting with the premise that we are doing the "wrong" thing instead of looking for what the "most" correct thing is.

  • Accelerationism, at least, the aspect that says "we shouldn't fix problems but just speed the collapse of broken systems" makes me think of the fallacy that "whatever doesn't kill me makes me stronger." While it is true that someone can become stronger in surviving certain things, there are many dangers that even if one survives them, they are still weaker and more damaged afterwards. Even in cases where accelerationism results in positive outcomes, it's likely that alternative solutions to accelerationism, like genuine reforms, would achieve greater long-term success at lower costs. It's also more broadly ethical, because generally speaking many short-term ethical decisions support the long-term ethical goals, while accelerationism seems to discard entirely certain short-term ethics under a vague presumption that those ethics either don't matter or will be eclipsed by the long-term "greater good." I think the irony for critics of Capitalism is that accelerationism is a huge part of the *flaws* of Capitalism...Capitalism in some contexts can work well, specifically in the context of facilitating trade of goods & services among genuinely free (non-coerced) agents. The biggest flaws of Capitalism tend to be when it is in domains where market choice is functionally impossible and/or under-regulated firms are allowed to take outsized control of the market as monopolies (or even just very close to monopolies.)

  • Unfortunately the US can never remake a Brittish comedy right.. Usually replying dry wit with slapstick comedy. Oddly I couldn't stand the original 'The Office' having spent 20 years in the IT industry working with all the characters in the series. Ahh great "American" shows like "AbFab", "The Ropers", "The IT Crowd", "Life on Mars"(Great way to mansplain away the ending there...), 'Men behaving badly' , 'Threes Company' (Ok slapstick in, slapstick out' but 'Man About the house' was still more intelligently written'... 'Red Dwarf' oh my god Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo... It was like a college drama version of the real thing... (Which reminds me of the abortion they did of 'Hitch hikers guide to the galaxy'... Did they not even read all the books and respect one of the greatest writers of his genre... 'Stanford and son' ... hey did they get that one right?... Top Gear... Its the show hosts you fools... not the content (the cars are just incidental)... Just look at the UK version without the dynamics of Clarkson, the little one, and captain slow... 'The Two of us' 'Oh No Not THEM!' --- c'mon, there was no way America was going to do (or even understand' 'The Young Ones"... I'm not saying America can't do Comedy for the rest of the world (M*A*S*H would have to be one of the all time world wide greats)... Its just that the rest of the world likes a bit of cerebral humour, not pie in the face and fart jokes 10-7.

Think about the world wars. It literally took 2 of those for humans to realize just how necessary Global cooperation is and how dangerous aggresive nationalistic campaigns are. You didn't really have to destroy half of Europe to realize war is bad.

  • the thing you missed is that even if we all get a dwight nobody will revolt against it just to hang on the last bits that we might still have and look pasively as these last bits get shrunk over and over again until we literally cannot survive. until then nobody will move, and so accelerationism don't makes sense because accelerating the influence of capitalism on our society won't make anyone revolt, it will just make them grumpy and even worse evil against one another, just like the french occupation where 95% of the french were okay with the nazis occupation and they actually actively denounced their friends and family just to get a bit above everyone else. That's literaly what we already experience. you are not that bad, you earn a bit more than most of the population, you have a house and you won't throw it all away for some ideology. human weakness and lack of will is the answer to what would happen if dwight took over

  • Marx is NOT an accelerationist. Not all! Accelerationism is rooted in a deep misreading of Marx's theories and was never something Marx advocated for. Marx saw the struggles to improve the conditions of workers as central to the task of fighting for socialism. Marx was an avid trade unionist and fought for improved wages and working conditions as huge part of his political activity. Y'all should give Value, Price, and Profit a read. Normally I really like y'alls analysis, but you definitely missed the mark on this point. Even in The Communist Manifesto, Marx and Engels clearly put forward that the Communists support all progressive demands that advance the needs of the working-class. Marx's theories have bastardized in a variety of ways and accelerationism is one of them

  • I would say a large flaw in accelerationism is humanity's capacity to adapt to their circumstances. People will adjust to whatever conditions are put on them and quickly start to see them as normal, and if your goal is to make something snap you have to fight against the rate of that adaptation. If things are not accelerated to the point where they will snap immediately, then they will not suddenly snap later unless there is even more acceleration, and at that point the previous acceleration has done nothing but advance the enemy agenda. It is theoretically possible to break a system like this, but the establishment is aware of this and should things start to go too fast they can slam the breaks to thwart it, which has the added effect of making them appear sympathetic and just. But I think the largest issue with accelerationism is the fact that we a quickly approaching a point where human labor becomes largely obsolete, and at this time workers will not have access to the power of an organized strike. If the workers do not acquire far, far more significant power over institutions like governments and corporations before such a time as labor becomes obsolete then they will have nothing to rely on for change other than sabotage and violence.

    Xenath CytrinXenath CytrinIl y a 3 mois
    • Glad to see an actual response to his questions in this sea of "communist propaganda" comments. I think accelerationism is very risky in being too little for revolt, suppressing the people's ability to revolt, and causing irreversible damage. I think this can be seen in both capitalism and fascism, the example that comes to mind is the Holocaust. The changes came subtly, each step being a reasonable progression from the last. It allowed the ideas to be normalized and spread, while suppressing ability or willingness to protest. If this process had been accelerated slightly, it would likely have ended in a similar way. But if after Jewish people were banned from some establishments, Hitler was provoked into a murderous rampage, he might've been killed then and there. People may have been shocked out of the progression of ideas from bigotry to genocide. If you'd like to discuss this or other political, economic viewpoints further, come over to Reddit and PM me, my username is RainInABottle.
