What's your favorite monster of all time?
Capitalism
I really don't like it when advertisement is integrated seamlessly in a philosophy video. It makes your content seem much less valuable than it is. Just my two cents. Thanks for the video anyhow.
Lagiacrus
@Platypus I concur.
Im a monster kid...so I love them all...from all over the world. But my heart belongs to Gojira....ever since I was four. Don't get me wrong.....Dracula and the Mummy were there too.....but Godzilla was my Superman. Monsters and Kung Fu helped me get through a rocky childhood....and they also gave me great memories. Great video
The weight of this video is lost to the sponsorship, having an ad in the video is one thing but this is just too much to find enjoyable
This video is like a pistachio, do I want to work through the annoying tough and fibrous inedible shell advert to get to the very small (but tasty) flesh? Probably not no
I just wanted to learn about monsters. But instead I got an ad for a lame game that noboby would play in three years.
Hey.... I pay FRworld premium to get rid of ads not watch them! Far too many Monster Hunter promos!!!! I jest... ...I miss Jared... ...I love Wisecrack!
hmmm...i nvr new that. but WTF america?! take over a country after a war, make them do something that would break laws in our country about freedom of speech. but understandable i nvr new since i had an american education and they paint themselfs as liberating heros in all our books. it was mind blowing to go to another country and do some small amount of schooling while there. u learn real quick a ton of stuff about america they dont teach us here.
wow this video had it all, great job mike! yer starting to grow on me.
For a channel that criticizes capitalism as often as Wisecrack does, you managed to disguise what is essentially a commercial for a video game as a deep dive into the history of monsters. Congratulations, you capitalists! Hope Capcom paid you well.
ads are getting smarter.
I wish all sponsored videos were as entertaining as this one
11:20 Frankenstein endures because he is in the public domain and almost all good monsters don't.
Is it just me or has wisecracks become just really boring?
you don't reheat a taco, that is just the rantings of a mad man
Nice 13 minute add
Giving this my first ever thumbs down for a wisecrack video for the ad integration. Sorry guys, this is not the way.
Finally not a political ad lol
Dude, too much mixture of ads and facts. And also ads inbetween. dislike.
I really enjoyed this video. One of the first times I voluntarily clicked on an ad
Strange that they didn’t mention the sawkon monster
Happy birthday baka 👹
I hate this new ad integration to make it more annoying to skip lol
@ᄡ what
Happy birthday baka 👹
Wisecrack, I get that you guys have to make a living but Jesus Christ! This was way too much. It's one thing to name drop your sponsor in the beginning or end of a video. Hell even if you had the advert in the middle of the video we could look past it but you wove the ad for the sponsor into the content itself. This is as shameless as Adam Sandler's hour and a half long Subway ad called Happy Gilmore. If your content was targeting a different demographic maybe you wouldn't getting called out for it in the comments. Yet, you decided to vomit your sponsor throughout a 13 min video to an audience who watch videos about philosophy for fun. This really wasn't a good move on your part. Please don't repeat this in the future or you’ll struggle to keep the subscribers that made this channel possible in the first place.
Happy birthday baka 👹
That thing about class representation really made me think of conspiracy theories who seem to blame the right party but then make a narrative around it totally divorced from reality.
I was expecting a full deep-dive into this interesting topic. Instead, I got a giant ad for a video game with a few basic tidbit facts thrown in to technically make it qualify as a "philosophy video". Wisecrack has really gone downhill with how much it's sold out to sponsors. I miss the days of "Thug Notes".
Happy birthday baka 👹
Very long ad :(
Monster Hunter IS an awesome franchise, but...??? I hope Crapcom paid a lot for that ad disguised as content. Try harder.
what an ad
goddammit wisecrack that was too far. What a crappy video... Why did you promote that game so heavily?
*Really* disliked how you handled the advertising in this. Was it an ad? Or a video? Because it felt like one really long ad. I would far rather you kept the ads and the content separate.
Jesus how much did they pay you and why did I watch a nine minute monster hunter rise ad with four minutes if historical content?
I hoped on the bible you'd talk about Leviathan, and how the passage in Genesis played against the Canaanite creation myth. Plus Monster Theory and the monstrous body.
So, yeah. I love this channel and I do love Monster Hunter in general (Preordered the last four games, no questions asked. I just enjoy hitting monsters with a big sword) but this is a thumbs down. How suble of you to explain game content and mechanics even if it doesn't make any sense. I know it's hard to survive because advertisement is the only reliable income you guys have and pumping out a lot of creative or deep content is impossible but this was just ... blunt advertisement. Let's not go there, okay? :(
Just do regular ads... shit
yeah this is all kinds of fucked. aren't you guys thriving because of covid anyways???? pretty shitty
Modern days be damned. Every family should have a black book.
This nigga lame, i miss jsred
The monster hunter stuff was a little too much guys. Normally I love your work but I had to bail early on this one
O shit, Pliny the elder, where my Puppet history gang @?
Oui c'est bon.
Reason why everyone should have a profitable investment.people need money
Most people remain poor only because friends and relatives stopped and advised them against Investing and trading cryptocurrency while the wise ones kept Investing and growing higher financially
I don't know how Mrs Theresa Walton does it, all I know is that she knows the forex market like it's her own farm. Working with her has yield fruitful results, made $20,000 in a week with her trading strategies
Her success story is written everywhere.
Expert Mrs Theresa has brought me out of wrenches of proverty and to a better living through trading options, I encourage newbies to trade with her.
I wonder if she uses magical powers during her trading sections.
What do I think? I think that Wisecrack should be ashamed of itself for producing this glorified COMMERCIAL for some dumb ass video game. THAT is what I think. And I have *made monsters* for a living since the 90s.
I really enjoyed the theme of this video, but I agree with the others that the ad felt really overrepresented :( I understand paying the bills for sure, I just wish I could have have gotten more content about the topic. I felt like I was just watching a long ad and missed out on other interesting stuff that could have been talked about.
Now this is such an interesting topic 🤔 DO MOREIKE DISSSS
Take a shot everytime you hear, "Monster Hunter"
The Dragon Emperor approoooooves, good wooork!
This was a pretty scammy episode.
This is an ad
Gargoyles
Oui C'est Bon Tabarnak
wisecrack like to sneak that ad in there all slick like
Wheres jared for real tho
"So, what do you guys think..." Wisecrack needs to get out of the advertising business and get back to engaging content.
There's a really cool netflix documentary called myth and monsters. Top notch, 10/10 recommend
I think in Iceborne Nergigante server as more of a "balancing" force. When another elder dragon is causing a disturbance, Nergy boi shows up to...correct, said disturbance. Which I've always found it odd that the hunters considered Nergigante an enemy. He's literally doing what the Hunters are claiming to do; bring balance to nature. It's almost like the hunters are of the mind that, "Nothing can express stewardship over nature OTHER than us. Anything else that tries, must die because WE know better than it does."
I think this would have worked better in hand with MHW / IB as a good deal of the monsters there were having effects on the landscape. This episode felt lacking of an idea to represent and a lacking tie in of Rise.
Is why early socialisation was fascinated by monsters ya understand what the natural world like in nature wants to kill you yeah That's why I always been faster by monsters
Great video. I understand you guys are trying to make a buck but inserting those plugs for that game is so tacky.
i really hate these jarring asides about the game. ads interwoven with the content without any clear delimiter. keep it up and i'll unsub.
No hate, make your money son.
Optimum Internet. Those people are MONSTERS. They increased my bill $20 and their service deteriorated
I feel like there wouldn’t be so many comments about ads if they had originally titled the video ‘The Philosophy of Monster Hunter: Rise’ or something.
Can you guys review the James Carse? He's behind the Simon Sinek and David Foster Wallace!!!! Really excited
Wow thanks but can we have more videos about monster hunter: rise
What Kapo? Is that other name for Kappa?
I usually really enjoy your videos, and I’m not averse to ads (we all need to make money) but to take such a fascinating topic and to compress it around a long ad? I’m disappointed
If you guys don’t like the ads then pay the patreon so they don’t rely on them
Why is it that when this channel discusses the ancient world, they mostly only talk about Europe?
They just need another big thing, like tiger king, or OK boomer. I'd imagine It's hard to come with philosophical videos week by week.
Sorry guys. But I just started bracing myself for the next segue back to Monster Hunter as I watched. And I like Monster Hunter and Wisecrack. Please don't choose this format again unless you go full in on the advertisement background (Monster Hunter lore) or keep it the ad to one part of the video instead.
Huh, no mention of Sesame Street.
This would have been a better video if they didn’t come back to sponsor so many times.
I love monsters, and I was really looking forward to a deeper dive on the topic. I understand completely the need for sponsors in order to make quality content. At times this felt like the reverse though: a long ad with philosophical content shoehorned in. I was fascinated to hear Adrienne Mayor's theory, however. Thank you for the citations. Maybe it's time for me to get off FRworld and pick up her book instead.
Anymore shameless full length ad videos from wisecrack and you'll have yourself one less sub.
Every part of this that isn’t an ad for a game that kinda looks good (I guess), is just history lessons: not philosophy. Y’know, the thing Wisecrack is supposed to be about. The video’s fine and all, whatever, but I really hope this doesn’t keep up.
Big monster go burrrrr!
I find your videos informative, but you're not funny Bring Jared baaaaack
Wow... a 13 minutes ad. An entire video sold out. What a joke.
It's like : now I know who I am. Thanks wisecrack
that's a bad ass sponsor! Glad they got something cooler than raid shadow legends
I was expecting a video on how monsters have evolved from folk legends to the kind of horror monsters we see now in media. What we got was a loosely-plugged ad that was also sometimes a bestiary lesson.
I feel a very strong connection to Bazelgeuse that transcends it just being cool. It perfectly embodies how I feel inside all the time, which, if you think about it, is really sad. My love for Bazel runs deep and I stand in solidarity with it always.
I was wondering why this video got ratio'd and I guess it's because it feels too much like an add. Like, the info is nice but stoping to talk about the game, however related to the topic as it may be, feels like the whole video is about it, rather than just somewhat inspired by it. I don't mind it, but it doesn's look good for a channel like this one, which to me seems to care about the content rather than the clickbait and the sick merch salez
I guess killing off all your good shows in favor of three hour long discussions on why freedom, i.e. ‘capitalism,’ is bad and slavery to Marxist ideals, i.e. poverty, is good hasn’t paid off very well. #MarxismIsMurder #MarxistsAreMonsters
Capitalism sucks
oo little bit of philosophy talk bundled up inside an ad :(
Marxists are monsters.
World Hunter World is WAY better!
As soon as the sponsor came up more than once I was done with this video.
just have a dedicated ad segment somewhere in the video instead of inserting game references into every other sentence, it completely killed the flow of the essay.
So much interesting 😌
...And also Indigenous Australians with their mythology and doxa which has existed for tens of thousands of years.
Wow. The entire video was just an advertisement for capcom:) Didn't see that coming.
Not a fan of this kind of product integration. I'm sure you had a lot to say in the subject, but your content got buried.
What what the SCP stories say about our culture
Medieval European theologians likened everything, not just monsters, to religious tropes. For example, more than one explained that roses looked the way they do to remind us of Christ: red petals for the blood He shed, thorns for the crown He wore, green to symbolize his rebirth, etc. Everything in this world was here to prepare us for the next one and therefore it was valuable to consider the religious symbolism or lessons in everything, in their way of thinking.
Sponsored by a Japanese Video game 2 minutes in: So iN tHe WeStErN WoRlD
I don’t appreciate having a Wisecrack video constantly interrupting my viewing of a Monster Hunter Rise commercial.
Do philosophy of euphoria please u.u
actually no, elder dragons r living natural disasters, the story actually tells of Nergigante's role where he's not much of one himself because he doesn't command over the top elemental powers but rather overpowers other elder dragons that use them with pure strength and regenerative capabilities like Wolverine. his purpose in the ecosystem is to hunt down these living natural disasters sating his hunger while also acting as a natural defense against too much of a population growth of the other catastrophic elder dragons
I love your guys videos but Jesus Christ that was a joke of a video. Too many ads
