  • I saw the first episode and it felt like they were trying to copy the Rick and Morty improve shit. Trying to be cool. Even that walrus who sells weed on Comedy Central is doing that. It's now a trend. Anyone can smoke pot or take acid and trip out ideas, even sober people. But you just have to be really down to Earth and had your mind opened to make what Justin Roiland thinks of. He's got a natural talent for it and the ideas really hit well. Everythings really well thought out.

  • How can I put this...all this is a copy of the original. Which in this world it’s called infringement of plagiarism. Their are those trying to get to the Source and actually do find a spec but not the whole picture. Then they sit wise and try to claim it for their own as if they are masters and creators of it. Zombies? Well to its similarities we were dead inside but now we live by the original Source, who gave us life, understanding and meaning. So, again it’s another similarity into how they name it. We are like zombies walking around but they don’t know or grasp the whole picture because they are trying to discover it on their own understanding and (so called wisdom) with out the real help of the Source. See, humans are destructive in every possible way. They are led by a unseen force they can not see. This is why it’s easy for this entity to take over them. Some may think this only goes for the poor and ignorant. Well, how about those called wise and rich? Why do they keep polluting and destroying the earth? Yes, driven by an unseen entity that leads to destruction. Have you not noticed how its happened before in past civilization? Their are all kinds of destruction such as hate, cheating, obesity, drug addiction, money lovers, greed, self centered, self absorbent, self indulgent, inhumanity, and more. I wish I could teach more but many are not ready for this. As I have even seen many carry the original manual yet still can’t grasp its true meaning because they didn’t follow the instruction. Here is where the person has to take that leap of faith.

  • Both- Clancy (Duncan) acknowledges that he is "dumb" or ignorant to the concepts discussed, some of his responses are naive to the point were the guest goes quite, and explains, or dismisses the comment, and naivety- Furthermore he plays with the concept- for example when "David" the therapist talks about "Enlightenment" he jokes after asking Clancy "Why you feel you are enlightened?" and he pauses and says "Cut to commercial", and it flashes to the podcast showing Clancy and David in the studio- laughing and the whole point is that is Naive- And that is the beauty- the innocence of discovery- because he is willing to "listen" which is another theme- So- both- I personally wish to convey that perhaps this show is "SMRT"- "SMRTE" as spelled out by Homer J. Simpson-

  • Crazy Deep. Love Midnight Gospel. Pendleton Ward is a long time favorite. I've kept my distance from Duncan mainly because of his proximity to Bro Hogan. I indeed noticed the arc of the real world catching up to him due to his refusal to acknowledge and solve daunting task. That's something most interested in philosophy encounter at some point. Trippy and smart often go hand in hand. For those of us willing to temporarily cast of the shackles of this oppressive reality have interest in new truths because of the banality of our day to day existence.

  • I just watched the whole thing like it was intelligent/kind strangers exchanging opinions on topics they found interesting. The animation is just Pendleton Ward doing his thing of showing how meaning can sprout from complete absurdity (try explaining the plot of one episode to your grandparents without mentioning the podcast aspect). The last episode being a deviation from the strangers-casually-chatting format makes the previously innocuous statements about life and death which you could have chuckled or rolled your eyes at suddenly cut deeper than you would have thought imaginable. That's what good art does. You can intellectually distance yourself from the truths of life all you want as you casually discuss them during your seemingly stable existence, but truly understanding their weight is a reckoning that arrives whether you are ready or not.

  • I have years of spiritual work, discipline and study. The ideas and imagery in this series are American Buddhism. Is Duncan deep? He is like most, good at quoting, quoting others with little personal substance, like most he is a low fidelity copy of a copy of a copy of a copy of a footprint left behind by one who escaped the wheel of life and death. If you like spiritual masturbation this will get you off, until the your dominant culture brainwashing pulls you to your next infatuation.

  • The visuals and the visual story being portrayed in each episode is really cool. As for what they’re talking about....personally it’s a real 50/50. Some things are interesting and make you go "aaaah" and then other things sound like the ramblings of two Jehovah’s witnesses having a conversation. That’s the annoying part, I stay tuned in for the little gems of wisdom I can get as a non religious or whatever sort of person. But it’s a lot like listening to toddlers tell made up stories as well. I’ll be watching the next season anyways.

  • there's so much world building to flesh out as well. i want the NEXT season to be all about reconciling with the relative truth. it's clear that Clancy's real world is super f**ked. overrun by out of control cops. parents who beat the sh*t out of their kids for indulging in the sins of eating ice cream. selling the concept of a pie messiah you bake in the microwave. How the f**k are we supposed to reconcile that reality in our lives?

  • something I found interesting in the show was trying to resolve the discrepancies between budism and christianity which is a religious philosophy that comes up multiple times as well. this religion has clearly influenced both Duncan and many of his guests. it's something that I still need to meditate on myself. the phrase "meditate like Christ on the cross" stuck with me. the idea of meditating on the feeling of being in physical pain. of being a god come to earth specifically to reach a climax of feeling immense pain for multiple days, and in doing so connect directly to the suffering of every being on earth. in one long moment sucking in every experience of the effects of hardship past, present, and future. how that moment of a few days is so small in the face of eternity. it fundamentally altered my interpretation of that religious philosophy.

  • I liked this show, but I never viewed Clancy as the one worth listening to, to me it seemed the writers intentionally made him a little ignorant and dimwitted, the most important and interesting points I thought came from the people he was interviewing, I noticed throughout the series, the people being interviewed often interrupted and corrected Clancy, giving the sense Clancy was the one learning along the way, that he didn't have things figured out or even knew what was going on. I never felt he was the one we were supposed to be listening to, but just giving a voice to questions or thoughts the audience might have for the interviewee to answer. Occasionally he would say some things to try and be "deep" but I honestly found it funny to see him often get shut down, just like people in the real world get shut down for faking being "deep"
