  • Gozu is by far my favourite Miike's bizarre film. The perfect mix of strange things/situations/people, all with laugh out loud moments. Plus ultra violence moments (but not too many), a bit of horror for good measure. Most importantly pretty much all the characters are likeable in various ways. Actually it's really well cast.

  • The implied bestiality and the hooker high on heroin getting drown in a kitty pool filled filled with shit are also pretty audacious scenes. I had heard somewhere that the ending was actually filmed by the second unit director as a joke or some sort of promo, but miike loved it and kept it in

  • Reward vs risk. We play, no we choose to play a game because of how much we get out of it. Recently I described the process of spinsterhood. If you're talking to someone you want to make interested in you, never would a subject come up. But if you're testing your audience. The question is, is it ok to "troll" people. And the simple answer is no. I'm still mad June didn't take Serena Joy with her and get the hell out of Gil-e'ad with the baby. I didn't go back to the show. Nor did I follow when they sent Margret Wells to the New World. The thing is, creators should be able to do what ever they want with their work. Unfortunately, people see you with and think they have the right to manipulate what you have and what you've done. So you go down that tight hall of spinsterhood because you close off to opposing forces. No, men will never just leave a woman alone. And most of them ain't worth shit, but they think a woman is an open target. Right, which is why fat girl clothes are relatively ugly. And if men were as great as they say they and America are, there would be no such thing as fat chick clothes, because there would be no fat chicks; there would be no judgement or bullying on size. Marilyn Monroe would be just another actress. And there would be no need for Black Lives Matter because there would automatically be equality because nobody ever created the idea of race. If people with money (politicians, specifically the president of the executive branch of the United States federal government) didn't act like trolls, the world would be a better place to live. So, in conclusion I don't know if Simon Rickrolls people like he says because I hardly go down to the bottom of the page. And I think if you are into John Cusack, I mean the Artist Formally Know as Prince, (why would John Cusack make a movie called the Prince with Bruce Willis and then let Jason Patric out? What is wrong with him????) Where was i at? If you are looking for the work of someone in particular, you should be up for anything Keanu Reeves. Why???? Why a new Bill and Ted and Corona? Why??? Why would They do that to us? No, hell no. I'm not going out socially if I have to wear a mask. And the numbers keep going up. Caitlin Doughty keeps me balanced with this one. I mean it is horrible, but death always happens. We build up stories of happily Ever After in Far Far Away, but the reality is, anything could happen.

  • I don't know Cohen's motives, but it didn't feel like I was being trolled because "being robbed" made sense to me in that film. When I watched "The Red Wedding" on GoT, I was so sure that Rob Stark was the main character in the story, and then they all got murdered and it only enhanced the show. Some of Trier's work however... I think I left the theater fairly fast during one of his later titles, though I can't remember which one. He has this thing he does where he doesn't even try to seduce you or make it about something deeper. He just spits in your face for being part of the audience in the first place. Kinda like you see a lot in contemporary art where there seems to be some kind of degenerate contest to make people adore and spend on the most meaningless garbage imaginable. THAT nihilistic, post modern scene, I can do without, even if it's actually just a reflection of the zeitgeist, which ultimately has some academic value I guess as long as you keep your distance to it.

  • I was lucky enough to see "Dead or Alive" blind, thinking it was a neat gangster action flick, and indeed it was, it had a great intro, amazing action scenes (which rivals even the best like "Dredd"), and a fine "Heat" style cop vs criminal melodrama, the movie is seriously great even without the ending and I was seriously invested to the plot and the characters. Seeing the infamous ending was a total mind fuck though, but I'd say it was totally worth it despite the fact trashing everything that happened in the movie, deep or dumb the ending was just amazing nonetheless.

  • Postmodernism b******* that just try to subvert movie cliches without actually bringing anything to the table. these are not young Quentin Tarantino's. these are not people who are trying to create the next masterpiece which takes everything that we have ever loved and then turns it on its head like "they live". The only good thing that came out of this subversion is Deadpool however they can't all be winners right?

  • I know what postmodernism is. It’s the middle classes fighting with each other instead of the rich. I have an ideology I came up with called “distributionism” where the rich collectively have to pay a little more than half the income taxes so the other half of normal people’s taxes can go to helping the poor. Also, in my blog, I write about psychology that is taking Jung’s idea of the shadow and applying it to my idea that the body is taboo because it is associated with death, and that death is psychologically connected with life’s meaninglessness. I see evidence for it in art and other types of culture, in language, in behavior (it’s not a smoking gun but evidence nonetheless). You can see more of this in my blog “Peace, Love and Bureaucracy.”

  • I can't believe with this title this video isn't about Rian Johnson. I feel trolled. Miike promises nothing but unique and bonkers entertainment, whereas Johnson has said in dozens and dozens of interviews, regarding every one of his films, that he sets out to "subvert the expectations of the audience." His entire approach to filmmaking is to pull the rug from under the audience because he thinks surprise is the same as quality. He gives away whodunnit halfway through a whodunnit film; he makes a Star Wars movie with no lightsaber fights (at no point in Last Jedi do two lightsabers cross each other) and changes the personalities of well-loved established characters; he makes a con artist film with no twist ending, instead falling back on unconvincing and unearned sentimentality. I argue that this is trolling pure and simple because in none of his films are these "subversions" done to serve the story in any way. They are done purely to mess with the audience and Johnson doesn't even try and hide that. He relishes in being surprising for surprise sake, utterly contemptuous of the craft of storytelling, of his characters, and especially of his audience.

  • Kinda felt that way when I firt saw last jedi. Not because of the space dubai sequence either. Every scene had a brilliant setup for a classic star wars trope that subsequently got diverted. Chekovs gun refused to go off at every turn and while I understand the whole thing about killing the past, I felt like the movie was targeting me, like I was being punished for loving star wars. How dare I have these expectations for things to go a certain way? I must be punished with continuous bait and switch. I understand the difficulty a director faces when faced with adopting a franchise so ridiculously well established as the star wars extended universe. There is a lot of expectations riding on you and you are asked to meet those expectations. The temptation to break with that completely and open the way for new ideas must be enormous. That said, if you wanted to make a movie that is not star wars, then make a movie that isn't star wars. Don't pretend in every scene that its going to be star wars and then turn it on its head. It gets old in the first act and we are clawing at ourselves in raging frustration by the 3rd. The film produced simultaneously some of the most beautiful moments in star wars history, and managed to be grossly unpleasant as a whole to watch for the first time. I felt this movie trolled me the worst of any film I have ever seen

That's the inherent tragedy in the gangster epic, you live the life you live and figure out the costs for having lived it later. No other genre of movie except maybe westerns, and film noir does that on such a personal level.

  • big fan of Miike. but I thought DOA 2 was even better, It was simialr to a Takeshi Kitano flick for the most part and It has a crazed Shinya Tsukamoto in a cameo performance for the ages. In one screening that had a Q&A Miike was asked if he would return the favour to Tsukamoto and deliver a cameo in one of his movies to which he replied "No, his movies are too violent". one more thing if you thought DOA was crazy wait till you watch Fudoh: The New Generation.
