  • People are making negative comments based on a one minute trailer? Are you really saying that people on the spectrum don't listen to music, dance, smile or react to fun situations? I enjoyed the trailer and look forward to seeing the movie. I will make my comments on the movie after I see it, not before.

  • I know I might get some hate on this but I really don’t see the problem. My little brother is autistic and the movements Maddie did are some that my little brother do, and I feel like it’s fine if someone acts autistic in a movie. Its as if someone acts like they have depression or epilepsy etc In a movie. In my eyes it’s just acting and there isn’t really any harm especially if it has a beautiful message (I’m not sure if there’s a message behind this movie though). If there is a problem in this movie that I’m not aware of please reply and tell me.❤️

  • There are 12 autistic people working on this movie. Making movies and acting is a profession that requires skills rarely possessed by autistic people, just as you won’t be seeing many autistic pilots flying a plane. Don’t be stupid, you’re not doing any favors by bashing a movie you didn’t see, you just expose yourself as hypocritical morons.

    • @Teuthis Talks because the main lead is held to much higher acting standards that are very rare in the autistic community. She couldn’t find a non verbal autistic person that would comply to her requests. She tried, didn’t work out, so she took someone who she thought could perform what was requested.

  • Sia signature dancer and alter ego has always been Maddie Ziegler since Chandelier , anyone should be very surprised if there is something made by Sia that doesn't involve Maddie Ziegler in one of her big projects. Music, as her first movie, is something big for Sia not to involve someone she can trust and realize her own vision, from experience we could expect good music (Sia main abilities) and great dancing (Maddie proved to be a very expressive dancer), the story and the plot of the film is something we can't really talk that much until we can see Sia attempt as a director that is not "just" a music video, billions of viewers for her videos could give us an hint, but we should still wait and see the movie as the argument involving some portrayed people with special abilities is not an easy one. For sure it's harder for Maddie Ziegler to portray an autistic person than an actor that already has some spectrum, may be she is not up to the task or may be it will be "acceptable" , but if the movie involves some extensive dancing I doubt Sia could have done without Maddie, Sia fan base experts to see Maddie Ziegler in almost every Sia visual work, it's just like expecting a musician working without his/her trusted band, it could be done, but it's not the same especially for her fan base. An acclaimed movie like Rain Man was criticized before the film came out? or even after? internet wasn't mainstream in 1988, there wasn't that much awareness of autism spectrum before the movie came out, also Sia movie could do more good than harm, we should see it before arguing against it, maybe it is a bad movie and portraits autism in a bad way, I hope it's not and probably isn't. Maddye Ziegler is not Dustin Hoffman, but their actor job is to portray different characters, it happens they both portrayed a person with autism, should always the role of an autistic person be assigned to an autistic actor? isn't it up to the director to decide what they want from their movies? I suspect, still without having had the opportunity to see the movie, that Maddie Ziegler role involves enough dancing to justify the need to use an highly trained dancer and the fact that she is Sia alter ego makes the need of Maddie in the role of the character "Music" unavoidable.

  • This upsets me. The spread of misinformation is already so strong, this movie just perpetuates those ideas. As F26 with Aspergers this sickens me. We struggle so much every day, and when the people around us believe all this misinformation that Auti$m $peaks, and now Sia, spout, it makes everyday living that much harder. I didn't know who Sia was, but I sure as hell do now. And this isnt just on Sia, this is on all of the people who went along with making this, and especially this Maddie person who decided to play the part. All of those people need to take a hard look at themselves.

    • I think Maddie was anywhere from 13-15 when she made this. She also came to Sia crying during production saying she was scared people would think she was making fun of autistic people, but Sia brushed off her concerns. This film should never have cast Maddie as Music, but blame the adults who told her this was okay to do, rather than a teenage girl who was just following the orders of the film crew around her.

  • Ignore all the trash comments. My daughter has non-verbal autistisn and from what I have seen from the preview acts very much like the actor. Every autistic person has individual stems that make them unique. Multiple times per day my daughter will just start giggling and laughing and I have always wondered what she is seeing. With that said hiring high functioning autistic would be no less insulting then a regular actor. Bringing light and positivity to those who have a neurological condition regardless of who you choose makes it compelling enough. I don't know who Sia is nor was I a fan but I am now. All of you whining need to grow the hell up. I challenge anyone of you even those who are "on the spetrum" to go and volunteer or spend a day with a person who is deep in the spectrum like children who are non-verbal. You will change your dislike to a like. All you "woke" people are doing a disservice to the community by trying to silence this production.

  • As an insufferable optimist, I really wanted to find something redeeming in this trailer. I did not. It really just feels like Sia wanted to make a full length music video with some feel good crack in between and she chose autism as her feel good hook of the day. I'm usually someone who comes to the defense when people complain about how stereotypical autistic characters in movies and film are; I believe they have to be to a certain extent. To get ratings, which is after all why the show really exists, they have to play to as common a denominator as possible and that means a certain degree of stereotyping for all characters. But based on this trailer, this autistic character goes beyond stereotypes into near mockery. I hate it.

    Really RiverReally RiverIl y a 4 heures
  • I’m autistic and I found this trailer was a lot to process, I found it quite overwhelming. I’m not too happy about this stereotypical portrayal of autism because it is seen so often when films attempt to portray autism. It does have an effect on how people perceive us, e.g. I get called ‘Rainman’ by people sometimes because of my ‘photographic’ memory, and I’ve also been called it when stimming. Autism can be portrayed well if autistic people are involved in the conversation, e.g. ‘The A Word’ portrays autism well, there are some stereotypical elements but I understand why it would be difficult to not have any stereotypes because of the ‘show don’t tell’ rule of film, and people currently associate certain things with autism, but that’s why I think it’s so important to have these conversations. That’s one positive I can think of when it comes to this situation, at least it’s sparked a conversation, despite Sia’s ignorant and arrogant reply to the criticism. Autism is a spectrum, and it gets boring just seeing the same thing over and over in film when there’s so much more to explore. For example, it is quite common for those who are afab (Assigned Female At Birth) to mask their difficulties in an attempt to seem ‘normal’ and to ‘fit in’ (this is also done by some amabs too), and I would love to see that explored, it’d be very refreshing. Anyway, although I’m frustrated by these stereotypical representations, I do understand why it’s difficult to portray autism sufficiently on screen, because our outer appearance often doesn’t reflect our inner world (thoughts, feelings, experiences etc), and the ‘show don’t tell’ rule is important in film.

  • Only read a few of these comments and it makes me cringe so much at how patronising and selfrighteous most of you are. Fair enough the video should have captions, that I agree with. However the majority of the people passing judgement on a film they have never seen is ridiculous and shows just how 'privileged' (a cringeworthy, over used, but in this case accurate word) yous really are that yous feel entitled enough to bad mouth and criticize something you have never seen or experienced, talk about about hypocrisy. Not to mention most of the commentators are 'neurotypical' and assume they are experts on autism because they know a few stereotypes and have read as much as the average person, therefore not being or having intimate first hand experience of autism means yous don't know how autistic people experience the world, especially as each individual is unique and will experience things differently. Next I would like to point out it is a film with ACTORS/ACTRESSES meaning they should be ACTING not playing characters exactly or very similar to themselves. A successful performer should be able to convince their audience they are the character they are portraying and can empathize, understand and display aspects of that character to the audience. The more dissimilar the character from the actors person the more successful they have been if they can achieve the aforementioned points (which will also be more difficult for them to do, so have some respect for their ambition). Should society be trying to increase diversity? Yes, but not through positive discrimination or cancel culture. People need to be able to imagine and fantasize and they should not be cancelled or trolled for not always being 100% authentic, because no one is! Don't usually post to stuff like this but you people need to chill a bit (now I'm being a bit of a hypocrite but this had to be said), rant over.

  • Hey guys , you know it's a - spectrum - disorder, right? That means that there are people on many different developmental, cognitive, verbal, etc levels out there who have all been lumped into the category of "autism". So yes, this doesn't represent those who are high functioning, but it DOES represent some individuals who are very low functioning. That being said, I do hope the movie shows others on the spectrum so that people will realize that not everyone with autism sits around all day stimming or staring off into their own world. There are many voices within autism, and unfortunately, because all the types tend to get lumped together in the press and in the entertainment industry, it is very hard for others to realize that.

I am tired of people without Autism rushing in to save to day and tell the "Autism story". Further more, this video is so offensive especially in their portrayal of a female with Autism, like I'm seriously ready to glare at someone, at Sia. The music is over stimulating, which turns the message into a total joke more so than the over all aesthetic. Women on the spectrum tend to mask their symptoms and further more receive less help (like way less, IF any) as teens and adults. The so called subject of the video is shown with this gawky, wonder lust, blank face as she smiles while people get WAY TOO close to her and anxiety fueled music plays in the foreground. AND, and can we talk about this young adult female being treated like a toddler on Sesame Street! I'm about to melt down alright. Back off Sia, stick too selling out for Target.

    • Sheldon was never meant to be autistic. Many people tend to forget that he's only seen as autistic because so many aspies saw themselves in him.

  • So strange to see all of the posts from people who are sound like they are walking on eggshells in them. As if they are very, very frightened of being attacked on social media by their peers for expressing themselves. This is a new form of peer pressure. And actually it is even sadder than any school bullying. As people will not learn to think for themselves. It reads like posts made by cult members.
