    • great video! Loved Inception and this video going to make me watch it again, I only wish you would have given a shout-out to Satoshi Kon's masterpiece Paprika, the whole premise of which Nolan borrowed for the movie (and probably worthy of its own video!)

    • It was good, but C'MON Wisecrack, corona quarantine is just too perfect time to not use it for reviews of movies that arent just latest block busters. F. e. do alternative/older films like Doctor Sleep/Mr. Nobody/A monster calls/K-Pax/The network/Metropolis etc. I believe in you!

  • Yo for real tho don’t listen to a lot of what Sigmund Freud said about psycho analysis since most of his conclusions could never be proven or disproven so it was just him sayin he’s right about stuff with no evidence. He has interesting ideas but he also had just some creepy ass shit goin on so like don’t really listen to what a lot of what psycho-analysis tries to say because almost all of it is not scientific or provable and not even accepted that widely in the psychology community anyways. so don’t really listen to a creepy dude talking about the reason you’re sad is because you want to bang your mom

  • Fact that sounds insane but I swear it's true: by 2010, I was 34 years old and had MAYBE 10 lucid dreams in my entire previous life. After first seeing Inception, over the next roughly 3 years I probably averaged at least 2-3 lucid dreams per week. Plenty of times I had one every night, sometimes multiple in the same night (mind you, some might last barely 30-60 seconds long, but several I got plenty of activity out of). And this was all without even looking up supposed helpful hints to do in your waking life to help provoke lucid dreams to happen. It literally was just kickstarted by watching this movie, it had to have been. I've probably since watched the movie in full a good 4-5 more times, but my lucid dreaming has decreased a lot over the last few years.

  • If you're curious about the concept of the subconscious, Freud is good, but Carl Jung is better. The entire plot is based on the idea that people can have shared dreams in a level of reality that has its own rules and can be directly affected by everyone's subconscious in the shared dream. This implies that all humanity has a shared subconscious, and that while we might have things unique to our own, they're not in separate walled off universes, they can enter another person's and even kill them, in the case of Mal. Jung talks a lot about this, and how it explains ideas and archetypes in culture and stories all over the world. Pretty cool stuff

He didn't and stayed in the dream. I can't remember the exact details of why the philosopher I heard it from came to this conclusion but it does put an interesting twist on it. • I totally agree with the South Park take that this is a overly complicated mess and that convoluted is often mistaken for a smart script. It's like Tarantino says: "there's an invisible connection between the audience and the film and the second you're confused it's severed". It's much more difficult, and much more rare to make complex content easy to understand and although I've never liked The Matrix' dialogue I've never met a person who said the film was confusing. At least the first one.

  • The Good: Outstanding visuals, game changing soundtrack, and just the fact this movie exists for being an original concept with a blockbuster budget... The Bad: Yes, Nolan could have expanded Ariadne by presenting more mind bending pieces while using paradoxes and Escher like scenerios for her to explore and fight with her mind... The Brilliant: Even if Nolan didn't start writing the movie as an autobiographical filmmaking statement, doesn't mean it didn't become that. Just the fact he casted Leo DiCaprio as a better looking alter ego goes to show you this movie isn't about dreams, but how movies are like dreams and someone like Cobb (the director) places ideas in our head without noticing. Jared thinks Inception is The Matrix of millenials, yet wouldn't give it a Brilliant? Ok, Boomer... Thanx!!!

  • I'd disagree with the repression interpretation. Cobb is fully aware of why he has a Mal-ghost running amok in his head, that she is his guilt personified, and that he cannot shake feeling that he really did murder his wife via "inception", even when he also knows that his intentions behind "incepting" Mal were good. There's nothing being repressed. There IS a cognitive dissonance, to be sure, and Cobb's conscious (if not controlled) mental insistence that he did murder his wife (and also rob his children of their father at the same time, too) explains the escalating Mal-related dream sabotage. Inception is still brilliant because, to me, at least, it shows what the therapeutic path to self-acceptance is like. Note that after Cobb shows Ariadne the events that lead to Mal's death, he's able to let her dream-ghost go. For some reason, sharing his experiences to a (relatively) neutral observer helped remove his self-imposed label of "murderer", my guess being that by vicariously seeing his past through Ariadne's eyes, he gained a more nuanced and less judgmental understanding of what lead to his wife's death. Yes, he "incepted" Mal's idea that her reality wasn't real. Yes, that idea ultimately killed her. What was made clear to Cobb, though, was that Mal's death was more akin to dying of cancer than from maliciously intended actions, and that by taking on the imaginary mantle of his wife's killer, he was doing more harm to himself and their children than good. Thus, Cobb's matured understanding adds a new flavor to the movie's finale. Before Cobb could let go of his not-so-justifiable guilt, he couldn't find relief from his anguish in wakefulness or in dreams, so even if the film ended with the top never falling over, it's still a happy ending because now, wherever Cobb ends up, he's finally at peace.
