  • Show don't tell. Would've been easier to understand their relationship problems if we could actually see him want Catherine to be what he wanted instead being what she was. Instead she tells him what he did after the fact and not in the moment where that explanation could've helped their relationship. This whole time this guy doesn't even get what happened or why she is so angry. His relationship with Samantha overcomes this hurdle because she uses her anger to discuss it instead of shutting him out.

  • A well-considered review of a “Why isn’t everyone watching this?!” movie. Maybe everyone wanted to SEE ScarJo, and were somehow disappointed? (Pity; her voice alone makes her “sexiest woman alive” status a particularly rational one.) I truly loved this movie (not like THAT, pervs), and wish more people had watched it with an open mind, if not an open heart. It’s almost identical to the advice I’ve given to couples that actually worked-and kept them in those early days of a truly committed relationship. It’s far easier to get married than it is to split up, especially once your desperate partner mixes his DVDs with yours. Talk about a nightmare!

Some parts were really hard to get through and I had to watch the movie over the course of several days. It was difficult, I didn't like it, but I forced myself because I thought there was some deeper meaning I kept missing. Thanks for spelling it out for me. P.S. the only part I liked about the movie was the futurescape.

  • Welp, wisecrack you've done it again. I did not like this movie when it came out because I didnt like the ending (or really the premise) but I was just viewing it through a very narrow lens. I see my own perspective of watching this movie on a plane back from Germany, and now I see it from the perspective of a true narrative commentary on how humans grow and what that can do to the uncertainty of love. Great work.

  • I loved this movie. It reminded me a lot of the experience of long distance relationships where you end up spending a lot of your time talking to a device. I've had people tell me that they find long distance relationships powerful, even if difficult, because they're stripped of all the normal social barriers and human impressions and require you to really get to know each other and talk things out, and that if you manage to power through the difficulties into a space where you're not geographically challenged anymore they can be very strong relationships. That said, this video was great because it makes me think about the motivation to find love through long distance, like online and faraway, because people feel lonely in their current spaces and try to salve that through the safe medium through a device rather than navigating the not-always-obvious unwritten rules in social interaction. Anyway, thanks for the great video!

  • I remember when this film came up as a subject during a philosophy course. I was completely mind blown by how simple and antagonistic people's views on it were. For me, it was life-changing. Watching it was the only time I felt like the complexities of love were honestly explored. Some of my core observations about relationships, intimacy, emotional maturity or a lackthereof were validated in a way that would never be permitted in ordinary life. There are some things people refuse to look at beyond the surface level for many reasons like fear, self-centeredness, personal convenience, pain and so on. What's so bizzare about this is that we double down on our surface dwelling when it comes to relationships. It's paradoxical because while we believe we're at our most vulnerable in connection with others, it's with others that we also seem to become most unwilling to see, feel, and understand. Love can take us further than we imagine, but its also the emotional licence we give ourselves for standing still. This was beautifully captured in the film as Theodore struggled with Samantha's (A.I) evolving nature, which included an understanding of love he never even considered, even while dealing with the aftermath of the separation from his wife. There's a lot more to be said about that but I'll leave it here. This was a great movie.

  • Great film. I was enjoying this video up until Jarred told me to fuck off. Please stop doing 'the bowman's salute' instead of the peace sign. Palm away from you and towards the viewer is peace. Palm towards you is telling the person to fuck off... sends a bit of a mixed message on a video about love.

  • As much as I love the voice of Scarlett Johanssen in this movie, let's get real here. The AI intelligence portrayed by her in "Her" doesn't slowly evolve emotional inflections and personality into its communications with the Joaquin Phoenix character, they're there right from the beginning! Not only is this a betrayal of logic, but it tries to show that computers can possess emotions AT ALL. Folks, emotion and intelligence are two completely different aspects of human psychology, anyone who's ever been in love understands that. It would be impossible (yes, I mean IMPOSSIBLE) to program the ability to develop emotional capacity into an artificial intelligence computer program, because that is an beyond any intelligence.

  • Dating is stupid. Marriage is stupid. Dating and marriage...both stupid. So I'm sitting in the kitchen finishing off some shrimp and chicken alfredo the my sister in law made and feeling like a looser. I mean she has her OWN business. And my adopted sister is decorated by the military. But what am I, a lowly muse. I mean it just isn't enough to be a goddess anymore. You gotta bring home the bacon and fry it up in a pan. The alfredo was good though. I didn't see Her. And I'm really glad you review these herr movin picturs, so I don't have to sit through 'em. I genuinely love Joaquin, but there's some of his stuff I have not seen, nor plan to see. Just like there's Adrien Brody stuff I haven't seen. And there's John Cusack stuff I can't seem to get to. You're never going to do it all before you check out. So, Monique got beef with Oprah and Tyler Perry and Daniels over Precious. Again, another movie I plan not to see, like Joker. You can save that hsit. Look, I see people in the midst of tragedy every day outside my window, I don't need Hollywood telling me how people can suffer. You can keep that 12 Years a Slave. We ain't free. Nobody is unplugged from the Matrix. Here's the thing...I recently watched two videos from The Take. One was the Strong Black Woman Trope (and yes they had the respect to use what you would assume was a Black woman's voice for the narration). And the other was about Marge and Homer, basically why women settle. Did I mention marriage is stupid? Ok, I HATE getting hit on. I'm at the point that I don't want men talking to me and it's not because of Corona. It's the assumption that a woman that isn't wearing a ring or have a man joined to her at the rib must be open. Women are just supposed to NEED a man. Just like it's assumed that as a woman you NEED to nurture and care for people. So even if the Take thinks that Marge finds Homer sexy, she still needs him for her Identity. That's why I got crackheads out in front of my house. Being a Christian woman, I should just want to take them in and take care of their problems and heal them. This is why they're crackheads. They know nothing about being a Christian, then they would know they have to go to God on their own, and change their lives. As a Christian I can only open the door, they have to walk through it. So back to Her. This is that all a man needs is the love of a good woman. But she's never there. Never there. Never ever ever ever there. "She can reach me, but I can never, ever reach her." Poor Big. Carrie had you twisted. I could say that were men get caught up is in the assumption that they deserve a woman of their choice. But the problem is in the labeling of relationships. If we have marriage as the holiest of holies, then everything is just a step down until you're outside with the crowd. Falling in love with a voice means they can be whatever you want in your mind. Just like those of us that have had the affair with Lestat de Lioncourt. He's real to us, but that doesn't count to other people. This is why marriage sucks. You don't marry because you want to shack up and knock the headboard around. You marry because you have to let the other people n your life have a bite off your big catch. And what is dating but fishing? I don't think that's what He meant when He said, I will make you fishers of men. It's raining outside...It's Raining Men. Like a John Cusack movie. This is the point I was thinking of...it took so long to get here. Why did they have to break up? It's so hard to be Christian and female and Black and open minded. But Veronica Franco. I'm not saying that we all become courtesans, but why can't we set a schedule to be with people. You know...how dating is supposed to work before they get obsessive and want you to not spend any time with anyone they don't approve of. You can love people and not have physical sexual relations with them. The idea that one person can fit every part of your personality only works for people that don't get educated past the 8th grade. You break up when you can't figure out a way to make it work, or you don't care to. There's no reason why they couldn't have touched base once a week or month. The thrill was gone. The excitement that someone paid attention to you, because once they start paying attention to you, either you get used to it and you stop noticing, or you start to wonder why. Which is another reason why marriage is stupid. You have to prove why you and that person can "make it." You can't make it with a machine, so it was wither break up or leave society. I'm just tired of Hollywood making bad relationships just to make people feel inadequate. You watch something like Her or Hitch and you wonder what makes you not Hollywood. And then you suffer in your normality.
