  • Hey everyone. A quick correction. The adjective "linear" to describe the work of Marx and Hegel isn't quite right - they both view history as dialectical, which involves a lot of back and forth. But they both, as the video mentions, imagine an overall progress towards an endpoint.

    • Yeah, I was going to say something about that. Of course, all of them saw their personal philosophy as The, singular endpoint of History, and evolution, when the truth is, it doesn't end. It didn't end with Communism. That was tried, on a Continental scale, and it failed. (Because it was totalitarianism masquerading as Socialism, and logistically, it's impossible to treat Armenians, and Siberians equally.) Randian free market libertarianism breaks down for much the same reason: The Benevolent Despot doesn't stay Benevolent. Even Democracy breaks down, because the lesser evil becomes the greater evil, when he gains Power. There is no ultimate solution to all of the problems in human nature, because if you make anything foolproof, we just invent a better fool.

His fault is that he trust his friend too much. Maybe he thought there something more about Bucky involvement so he didnt disclose it with Tony when he should've.

  • Ahem... Loki made it to the invasion part of his plan making him more successful than Killmonger by a wide margin. Just saying. KM is the most over-credited character in the entirety of the MCU, he was an outspoken and ineffectual racist who betrayed his brothers in arms, his country, his native country, his culture, and his own ethos. He's a bad faith actor you've all been praising blindly, his preaching is "woke" gaslighting and hypocritical virtue-signaling. I hope Namor introduces himself wearing the jaguar necklace, unceremoniously throwing Erik's lifeless body on the Wakandan throne room's floor and his first line is: "Keep your trash out of my ocean."

  • While not exactly wrong, I think you massively overcomplicate things. Most Americans are not "lit' majors." We don't know the history of the different historic models for heroes. We don't know what all of the philosophers said about this or that. But, we have money and we like to trade it for stuff. When that stuff is equal or better than advertised, we are happy, and we are likely to trade more money for another product from the same seller. It's really that simple. Endgame didn't make its millions on its own merit. It was the culmination of dozens of other products, which mostly made customers very happy. It's all well and good that the story arcs mesh well with other great storytellers. But that's all hindsight, and did not influence the financial success of the series. They started with a couple big successes. They built on those, with a series of safe, incremental successes. Only after the audience was well invested in the franchise, did they get big picture, and even then they continued to deliver (mostly) what the audience wanted. All the theory aside, if they had not done any one of these, it would have fallen apart. Doubt? See the DC franchise of the same period... Proof.

  • I disagree with Robert McKee's explanation. Or at least his definition of a static character. A character who's core belief system doesn't change doesn't always make for an uninteresting character. You could argue that many intense and mesmerizing character studies come from seeing how such a person molds their views to resolve the inconsistencies they face from external conflicts. That's why I love and will always root for the MC version of Captain America .

It was what Tony highlighted at the Start of Endgame when he threw his words back at him. Captain America's action caused them to lose to Thanos in the first time. Shouldn't that matter in the overall storyline when it comes to Captain America ?

And especially the fact that he lies to Tony about his parents is even more development because cap is supposed to be the most honest of the avengers.

  • You are wrong about Captain America. He believed in government and foundation hole heartedly. But from avengers he started criticising and questioning it and fought against it in winter soldier, infinity war(secret avengers) That's a pretty good and hard character arc and change. Now the constant part of his character is that he is a "good man". From the beginning he was that and that thing did not need to be changed but that doesn't mean he did not had a character arc.( and choosing a life after returning the stone the arc is complete and pretty much satisfying).

  • If I disagree with any of the breakdowns, it wouldn't be Cap. It would be Thor but, I wouldn't exactly disagree. I would just alter it. Thor's progression is definitely cyclical but, in a downward spiral. Thor is actually a combination of both Tony and Cap. In every iteration of the cycle, Thor ends up in a worse place than he started at. Despite that, he continues to move forward with the same intent(being a hero). It's his Cap aspect. The tree that will never be moved. Yet his methods and expected rewards absolutely progress(Tony). Initially he wanted to be a hero because he had a huge ego and liked to fight and thought that was basically how you solved your problems. He was a hero because he loved the attention and fame. By the end, he understood the importance of avoiding war but still be willing to fight. He no longer cared about fame and ego but just not losing more people he loved and failing as a hero(which he did in his own eyes). So ultimately his actions remained the same(just wiser) but his motivations for those same actions changed drastically.

  • i admit that the ending of endgame is as epic as it can get for that particular universe... but the rohirrim's charge is and will remain unmatched for now. I am currently rewatching the whole MCU and yes there's great satisfaction in watching all of them gathering around to defeat thanos. but epicness is measured by the ability of a weaker side overcoming a strong, evil, outnumbering side.... when they all came back to avenge the snap you knew Thanos would be defeated no matter how. they were just too strong, too many. Even Thanos knew with his line "that is destiny fulfilled". In LOTR, as depicted in the feature, it's the combination of sidekicks characters as depicted in the feature who eventually overcome the strong and evil Sauron. Not aragorn, not gandalf, not legolas. It's basically two hobbits and lady Eowyn, and unknown rohirrim riders with absolutely no name. hence the epicness and heroism... but loved your video, the brilliance of endgame is how they could make an outstanding transition act (that is what the feature is mainly) but also close the whole rivalry arc between Rodgers and Stark. Solving their own issues and their respective coming around certain holes in their life (two characters who did not have enough time to say how much they care to their loved ones to sum it up). as for Thor... it is still up in the air. Still unworthy to be a king. this character is still growing strong. I was puzzled at first with Bro Thor but considering he failed another test to show how worthy he can be despite being as strong as he can probably be. he has to grind back and I don't see him going out of the MCU after THOR 4 or GOTG vol 3.
